At the southeastern corner of the US, S of Georgia and Alabama. Most of the state is a peninsula with the Atlantic Ocean to the E and the Gulf of Mexico to the W. From the northernmost point to the tip of the Keys is about 430 miles. The widest part is about 350 miles, but the peninsula itself does not stretch more than 155 miles across. Florida is flat and low in altitude, with dozens of lakes and huge areas of swampland. It has several large bays. Most UK visitors end up at Disney World and perhaps spend time at one of the beach resorts in the southern half of the state. The main airports are Tampa, Orlando and Miami, all of which are within 170 miles of the resort areas. The state has plenty of pale sand beaches, with the pick on the attractive Gulf of Mexico.
