Zante is the most southerly of the Ionian Islands and one of the most popular Greek islands. Zante is a real gem of an island with some of the best beaches in Greece. The gently shelving sands are particularly good for children, whilst a range of watersports can be enjoyed along some areas of the coast. Known by the Greeks as Zakynthos, there's a range of quiet and more bustling resorts, from those on hideaway coves to the more modern holiday resorts. Modern bars, traditional Greek tavernas and boutique shops, holidays to Zante's golden shores really do have it all. But, at the end of the day, it's the beaches that are the biggest draw for Zante holidays. Beautifully tranquil coves, broad white-sand bays and resort beaches that stretch as far as the eye can see, are all edged with private villas, holiday apartments and family-friendly hotels. There is something for everyone on this floating island of paradise with numerous sandy beaches, mountain villages preserving the traditional Greek way of life, beautiful natural scenery, watersports and good quality restaurants, bars and nightclubs to more than cater for all your entertainment needs. The locals welcome tourists with open arms and offer them the hospitality which Greece is famous for.
Laganas is Zante’s busiest resort and gets larger and livelier year after year. It has probably got the finest beach on the island, a five mile sweep of sands shelving into warm, calm waters. Bars and restaurants open until the early hours, and in July and August the resort is buzzing. The bright lights of Laganas attract those who want fun-filled evenings and days chilling on the gorgeous sandy beach, where the island's endangered loggerhead turtles can sometimes be seen swimming. If you want to dance the night away, you can boogie on down to Laganas's main strip for discos and nightclubs galore.
